Day 01 | Arrival in Marrakech

Welcome to Marrakech – The Red City

Upon arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your private driver and transferred comfortably to your accommodation in the heart of Marrakech.

After check-in, the remainder of the day is intentionally kept relaxed, allowing everyone to recover from the journey, freshen up, and settle into the Moroccan atmosphere. Depending on your arrival time and energy levels, you may enjoy some time at the hotel or take a gentle introductory walk through the surrounding neighborhood.

In the evening, discover the vibrant atmosphere of Jemaa el-Fnaa, Marrakech’s famous central square. As the sun sets, the square comes alive with storytellers, musicians, traditional performers, food stalls, and local vendors. It is an exciting first introduction to the sounds, colors, and energy of Morocco.

For the evening, you may choose between a relaxed dinner at a carefully selected restaurant or an informal meal within the lively medina.

Day 02 | Discover the Cultural Heritage of Marrakech

Palaces, History, the Mellah & the Medina

After breakfast, begin a guided exploration of Marrakech with your private local guide.

The day starts with a visit to the Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakech’s most recognizable landmark. The mosque itself is not open to non-Muslim visitors, but its impressive exterior, minaret, gardens, and surrounding square provide an excellent introduction to the city’s architectural heritage.

Continue to the magnificent Bahia Palace, a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture featuring beautifully decorated courtyards, carved cedarwood, colorful zellij tilework, and intricate stucco. Your guide will bring the history of the palace and the people who lived there to life.

The journey then continues into the Mellah, the historic Jewish quarter of Marrakech. Here, you will discover an important part of the city’s multicultural history, including traditional architecture and the legacy of the former Jewish community.

In the afternoon, enter the maze of the Marrakech Medina and souks. Rather than rushing from one attraction to another, the visit can be adapted to your family’s interests and pace. Explore traditional markets filled with spices, leather goods, textiles, lanterns, ceramics, and handmade crafts.

There will also be opportunities to meet local artisans and learn about traditional Moroccan craftsmanship.

Day 03 | Marrakech → Aït Benhaddou → Skoura

Crossing the High Atlas Mountains

After breakfast, depart Marrakech and begin one of the most scenic drives of the journey toward southern Morocco.

The road climbs steadily into the High Atlas Mountains, passing through traditional Berber villages and spectacular mountain scenery. You will cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of Morocco’s most impressive mountain routes, with opportunities to stop along the way for photographs and short breaks.

As the landscape changes from green mountain valleys to the more arid scenery of southern Morocco, you will feel the transition from northern Morocco into the desert region.

Continue toward Aït Benhaddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ksar is composed of traditional earthen buildings rising dramatically against the surrounding landscape. A leisurely walk through its narrow passages and ancient streets offers wonderful opportunities for family photographs and an insight into traditional southern Moroccan architecture.

After the visit, continue toward Skoura, an oasis town renowned for its palm groves and historic kasbahs.

After breakfast, depart Skoura and travel through the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley, where the road winds between rugged mountains, fertile valleys, and traditional villages.

Continue toward Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes. Massive limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of the gorge, creating a spectacular setting for photographs and a short family walk.

The journey then continues east toward Erfoud, an important town known for its fossil and mineral workshops. From the region of Erfoud, transfer into 4×4 vehicles for the final approach to the Sahara Desert.

Arrive at your luxury desert camp in the dunes of Merzouga.

As the afternoon light begins to soften, enjoy a traditional camel ride through the golden dunes. The experience offers a wonderful opportunity for children and adults alike to experience the Sahara at a relaxed pace.

For the children, sandboarding can add an extra element of fun and adventure.

As the sun sets over the dunes, return to camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner. The evening can continue around the campfire with local music and an opportunity to enjoy the extraordinary silence and vastness of the desert sky.

For those seeking additional adventure, quad biking in the desert can be arranged as an optional activity, subject to age and safety requirements.

After leaving Merzouga, continue through Rissani, an important historic trading town and gateway to the Sahara. Depending on timing, there may be an opportunity to explore part of the local market or discover some of the region’s traditional products.

Continue westward toward Ksar El Khorbat, a remarkable fortified village showcasing the distinctive architecture of southern Morocco. The ksar provides another opportunity to understand how communities traditionally lived and protected themselves in this harsh but beautiful environment.

The journey continues through the changing landscapes of the Draa and Ouarzazate regions before arriving in Ouarzazate, often referred to as the gateway to the Sahara and the Hollywood of Morocco.

A visit to one of the film studios offers an entertaining insight into the world of cinema, including sets and props used in major productions.
